The Relationship Finger Trick!

Here’s a fun story that can be used as a trance process for enhancing relationships or even to intensify intimacy when done just the right way or it is just an explanation as to why the wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger rather than any other finger.

Now, most Western sources I’ve found attribute this explanation to the ancient Chinese although it should be noted that the names of the ring finger in many languages reflect an ancient transcultural belief that it is a magical finger. For the Chinese it is 无名指 or the unnamed finger and many folks here don’t actually wear rings in quite the same way that Westerners do.

However, it’s a beautiful story regardless of origin and can still be used in some intriguing ways.

First off, it’s worth noting that for this tale, we place our palms together with the middle fingers of each hand bent forward and the finger tips of the other fingers touching.

Each finger set represents a different relationship type:

The thumb represents your Parents
Second (Index) finger represents your Siblings
Middle finger represents your Self
Fourth (Ring) finger represents your Life Partner
Last (Little or Pinky) finger represents your Children

Got it?

Now, in the video, I said to do this by yourself, but those of you familiar with my When Two Become One process (http://briandavidphillips.net/2001/06/26/fgi21/) know that you can use this finger placement method with a couple to enhance intimacy. Be sure to include the power of The Gaze and incorporate eye contact into the process and use the story as a means of reinforcing relationship bonding.

A review of the process . . .

Firstly, open your palms (face to face), bend the middle fingers and hold them together – back to back
Secondly, open and hold the remaining three fingers and the thumb – tip to tip (As demonstrated in the video and shown in the figure Above)
Now, try to Separate your Thumbs (representing the parents)…, they will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong (Sorry but its the Truth), and have to leave you sooner or later.
Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings)… ., they will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.
Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children)… ., they will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day…
Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse).
You may be surprised to see that you just CAN NOT ..,
This is because relationships between married or permanently bonded persons stick together, merge souls if you will.
